Head of the research group Sedimentology and adjunct professor at ETH Zurich
At Eawag since 2007
“I have the privilege of being able to make discoveries.” Anyone who
sees the geologist giving a lecture soon realizes that Anselmetti wants to
share this privilege with others. He demonstrates his capacity for discovery to
his students. “Processes are always visible,” says the professor, “if you learn
how to read the signs.” For example, the black layer in the sediments of Lake
Zurich is not simply a pattern. It provides a record of anthropogenic
environmental changes which took place over 100 years ago, when oxygen was
depleted at the bottom of the lake as a result of excessive nutrient inputs.
