Eawag’s human resources development - the basis for the key figures

The data of the man years is collected in compliance with the Rumba-requirements in terms of “full time equivalents” (FTE). PhD students are counted as 100% employed. People staying at Eawag on a voluntary basis are not included in the below mentioned table. People paid a 100% by ETH Zurich or other institutions are, on the other hand since 2009, included in this table (up to that date the list included only externally employed professors). A survey conducted in 1999 showed that if externally employed people had been counted, there would have been already then approximately 20 additional FTE. The number of additionally present people has been growing continually since then.

The dissertations, bachelors and master degrees done at Eawag correspond to approximately additional 20 FTE. In addition there are also students in block courses, etc. The staff from the nursery and the aQa restaurant is still not included in the list (approx. 10 FTE). Visiting scientists correspond to at least 10 FTE. Including also all short-term visitors in all of the buildings Eawag counts with an yearly average of 500 FTE.
