Über mich

I specialise in sanitation and wastewater management solutions for development. My main research interest centers on how systems for environmental sanitation and waste management can be selected, designed, implemented, operated and maintained in ways that are best suited for the local context and the environment. This typically requires systematic approaches for decision-making and planning, engagement and collaboration of stakeholders and skilled experts, the right financing mechanisms as well as resource intelligent process engineering.

Through my work in collaboration with colleagues from research and practice, I strive to generate evidence-based knowledge and make research findings accessible. This includes the development of application-oriented knowledge products and training materials for practitioners who are dealing with challenging public health contexts around the globe. Positioned at the interface between research and practice in sanitation, I interact with experts from the field as much as possible. This allows to get feedback and to learn from sanitation development practitioners about their real-life challenges and knowledge gaps that need to be addressed through applied research collaborations and targeted training programmes.

I am an environmental engineer by training, and a member of the Strategic Environmental Sanitation Planning Group at Sandec since 2011. In my free time I am mostly found outdoors, in search of unspoiled wild nature and spectacular mountains to climb.

I am currently based in Bangalore, India, leading the BMGF-funded 4S Project (see below).
