PhD Summer School 2011
“Sediments as archives of environmental change”
July 4 - 15, 2011, Eawag Kastanienbaum, Switzerland
The Eawag Summer School 2011 „Sediments as archives of environmental change“will confront PhD and outstanding master students with the use of sediments as recorders of various environmental changes and events, such as climate change, biologic and ecologic changes, natural hazards (e.g. mass movements, floods) or human impact (e.g. pollution). The course consists of frontal lectures, discussions, practical field work on Lake Lucerne, laboratory work and field excursions. A variety of disciplines will be integrated in a comprehensive understanding of sedimentary processes and their link to the environment. This overarching theme includes sedimentological, geophysical, petrophysical, geochemical and microbiological approaches.
This course is funded through the Swiss National Science Foundation PhD program “Sustainability and management of mid sized lakes in the 21st century” and is part of its educational program.
