Awards for young researchers
April 25th, 2006
Pascal Humbel, a 20-year-old school-leaver from Canton
Aargau, has been awarded the Eawag special prize in the Swiss Youth Research (SJF) competition. He will be spending a
week as an intern at Eawag, having received the highest grade («outstanding»)
for his work on «Flood risk in the Reuss Valley,
Canton Aargau». Humbel was not the only prize-winning young researcher
interested in water-related topics: in a contribution entitled «Photocatalytic
water purification with titanium dioxide», Ueli Wendelspiess (Canton St. Gallen)
investigated the potential of this treatment method.
He will now have the
opportunity to spend a week pursuing his research at the Max Planck Institute of
Biophysics in Frankfurt.
Wendelspiess’s work was supervised by Stefan Hug of Eawag.
Further information on the award ceremony at the Swiss Museum of Transport, Lucerne (24 April 2005), and on the research projects is available on the SJF website.
