Eawag wins leading environmental award

At the World Exposition in Aichi, Japan, today (Wednesday, 27 April 2005), the Energy-Globe prizes were awarded, with an audience of 3000 filling the Expo Dome to capacity for the first time. On behalf of Eawag, Martin Wegelin (Department of Water and Sanitation in Developing Countries/Sandec) received the special prize for innovation, in recognition of the development and propagation of Sodis – the solar water disinfection system using PET bottles. The programme, marking Austria’s National Day, included performances by the Vienna Boys’ Choir and the Austrian Ballet Company.
