Information on the Lake Brienz Project
July 4th, 2006
Lake turbidity, the collapse of whitefish
yields in 1999 and the temporary disappearance of the water flea (Daphnia) – the main food source for
whitefish – have raised questions not only among Lake Brienz fishermen and
residents but also more widely. Eawag and other research partners were
commissioned by Canton Bern to conduct a study over a period of several years,
investigating the factors responsible for these changes. The results of this study
are to be presented at Iseltwald on Tuesday 4 July, with a media conference
scheduled for the morning and a public presentation for the evening.
