Über mich

I am an environmental scientist, with interests in analytical chemistry, mathematical modeling and wastewater treatment. Having a broad scientific background, I enjoy working in interdisciplinary settings to understand the mechanics of water and soil related environmental problems and contribute to their mitigation.

At Eawag I am a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Ralf Kägi and Prof. Eberhard Morgenroth in the Process Engineering Department. My research focuses on kinetic aspects of the combustion of sewage sludge in fluidized bed reactors and the behavior of engineered nano particles in engineered environments especially during combustion and landfilling.

Current project: Fate of Engineered Nanoparticles during Sewage Sludge Combustion and Mobilization from Sewage Sludge Ashes

Project sub tasks:

  • Characterize the combustion kinetics of sewage sludge and identify the speciation of the combustibles using thermogravimetry and advanced evaluation methods
  • Assess the potential catalytic or inhinbitory effects of engineered nanoparticles on sewage sludge incineration
  • Assess the changes in speciation of copper and zinc (-nanoparticles) during sewage sludge incineration using XAS and µXAS
  • Determine the leachability/extractability of CuO-NP and ZnO-NP from sewage sludge ash
  • Quantify the propagation of inert ENPs through a wastewater treatment including a pilot conventional activated sludge plant, an anaerobic digester and a pilot fluidized bed incineration plant
