About Me

After completing my Master studies in environmental engineering at ETH, I started my PhD in the Process Engineering department of Eawag in June 2018 under the supervision of Dr. Nicolas Derlon and advised by Prof. Eberhard Morgenroth. In the scope of biological wastewater treatment, I am dedicated to develop innovative technologies that aim to convert organics into valuable end-products or energy as opposed to conventional technologies that simply focus on the removal of organics. Therefore, I borrow tools from various fields such as biotechnology, microbiology, and analytical chemistry to better understand (i) fundamental mechanisms in mixed microbial cultures as we find them in wastewater and (ii) how to engineer a system that triggers the specific mechanisms of interest.
