Achieving urban climate adaptation requires holistic and adaptive approaches that foster strong collaboration between academic disciplines, industry, government and society. My core research vision is to advance urban planning practice through improved understanding of the multi-functional characteristics of Blue-Green Systems (BGI), the reciprocal relationship with the urban physical and socio-political landscape and the application of this understanding in spatial planning practice and support. Combining qualitative and quantitative research methods, my research seeks to integrate practical experience with technical and social knowledge to inform the transition to Water Sensitive Cities through the implementation of BGI and Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). My research agenda is built on three pillars: (1) advancing planning support systems (PSS) and their application to (2) integrate diverse knowledge and information relevant to Sponge City implementation by (3) developing and testing novel decision-support methods.
