About Me

In collaboration with great scientists and practitioners, I have the opportunity to explore the world of aquatic microbiology. My major research interests are:

Drinking water microbiology

  • Dynamics of microbial communities in drinking water sources and distribution systems
  • Microbial monitoring of natural and engineered ecosystems
  • Low nucleic acid (LNA) / high nucleic acid (HNA) content bacteria
  • Biofilm monitoring in drinking water systems
  • Biological stability of drinking water

Development of tools for automated, high-throughput microbial measurements

  • Automated online flow cytometry for ecosystem and process monitoring
  • Real-time flow cytometry for the analysis of microbial dynamics and kinetics
  • Automation and optimization of microbial routine measurements
