Department Aquatic Ecology

About Me

I have been trained in ecology and evolution, with strong background in life-history evolution. I have been mainly interested in studying how abiotic and biotic factors influence the growth and survival of ectotherms (i.e., lizards, terrestrial isopods, mangrove crabs and millipedes). My current research focuses on the role of gut symbionts in nutrition and defense in isopod hosts. During my postdoc at ECO, I will test the role of actinobacterial symbionts in protecting the freshwater isopod Asellus aquaticus and terrestrial isopod Porcellio scaber against pathogenic fungi using a combination of amplicon sequencing, culture-dependent microbiological techniques and feeding manipulations.
