Biofilms can significantly influence the quality of drinking water that is delivered to consumers. In distribution systems and in household plumbing, biofilms can harbor and release unwanted microorganisms and also degrade chemical water quality. In biological drinking water treatment processes, however, biofilms can be beneficial for improving water quality. This conference will focus on all aspects of biofilms in drinking water systems: characterization, management, control, and beneficial use.
