Exhibition «Where there are no sewers»

October 2, 2019, 4.30 pm - 6.00 pm

Eawag Dübendorf

From 2 to 30 October, a photo exhibition will be taking place in the Atrium of Forum Chriesbach.

Enormous progress has been made in the global effort to provide universal access to safe and affordable sanitation in the past decade. Significant strides have been created in bringing innovation to the field, through innovations in ‘reinventing the toilet’ and recovering resources from ‘fecal waste’. This once-taboo topic is now at the forefront of public health, environmental concern, and urban development among others. The Prime Minister of India made it the center of his political discourse, declaring that his country needs toilets over temples.

However, globally 2 billion people still do not have access to even basic sanitation facilities. In addition, over three quarters of all wastewater is discharged, untreated.

The exhibiton in the Atrium of Forum Chriesbach showcases photo essays by Sharada Prasad and Isha Ray. The social scientists focus therein on the back-end of the sanitation chain, and bring to light the plight of those who have to fill in, where there are no sewers.
