Wastewater Management 2025
Today, thanks to past investment programmes, Switzerland has a safe and effective wastewater management system, which provides high-quality services nationwide. Strategic and tactical decisions now need to be taken on the provision and efficient deployment of available resources over the long term, so as to ensure the maintenance and improvement of services in this sector.
The aim of the Wastewater Management 2025 report is to identify gaps in our knowledge of the current situation and the future of wastewater management in Switzerland. At the same time, existing knowledge is reviewed in detail.
The result of this synthesis is a report which, in conjunction with the "Water Supply 2025" report, offers a comprehensive overview of the current state of knowledge concerning the future of the wastewater management sector. Rather than collecting or analysing new data, the emphasis has been placed on bringing together the meta-knowledge available at the national level and identifying future action areas for Swiss wastewater management.
The present report on "Wastewater Management 2025" comprises seven modules and a "Recommendations" section. The various modules were prepared under the direction of Eawag experts, who provided guidance on completeness and on grey literature, as well as key interview partners. The individual modules were subsequently reviewed by members of the advisory group and expanded following in-depth discussions.
