Particles (> 500 nm) in ice cores
Climatic indications of particles (>500nm) in Ice cores
Particles trapped in the Antarctic ice shield contain a lot
of climatic information. Researchers have studied the chemistry of individual
particle in great detail, which however dramatically reduced the amount of
analyzed particles, as the analysis was always performed manually. A large
number of particles can be processed by particle counters, producing a solid
dataset on the particle size distribution, but with the drawback, that the
chemical composition of the particles remains unknown. In this study we tried
to combine the advantages of both approaches by using CCSEM (computer
controlled scanning electron microscopy).
