Hans-Joachim Mosler, Leiter des Clusters Umwelt- und Gesundheitspsychologie wurde zum stellvertretenden
Abteilungsleiter der Abteilung Umweltwissenschaften ernannt.
Neue Abteilung Umweltsozialwissenschaften (ESS)
Die neue Abteilung Umweltsozialwissenschaften (ESS) hat ihre Arbeit
im September 2012 aufgenommen. Die Forschung fokussiert auf drei wichtigen
sozialwissenschaftlichen Themen: die Analyse des individuellen Verhaltens und
der Entscheidungsprozesse in Bezug auf Umwelt- und Gesundheitsthemen, die
Analyse von Institutionen, Netzwerken und Governance Strukturen welche
Umweltprobleme regulieren und adressieren, und das Verständnis eines an
Nachhaltigkeit orientierten Transformationsprozesses in den Hauptsektoren der
Industrie.
Die ESS Forschung trägt basierend auf diesen Kompetenzen zum
besseren Verständnis, Bewertung und Management von wasserbezogenen Problemen
bei. Dies sind zum Beispiel Akzeptanz und Nutzung von gesundheitsfördernden
Wassertechnologien oder an Nachhaltigkeit orientierte Reformen des
Siedlungswasser-Sektors. Da zugehören auch wasserbezogene
Ökosystemdienstleistungen oder das Design neuer politischer Ansätze für den
Umgang mit Umweltverschmutzung in aquatischen Ökosystemen.
Die Abteilung hat
fünf Forschungsgruppen und wird von Bernhard Truffer geleitet.

Environmental change and organizational transformation
The presentation is about the special case of economic reforms in Latin America (emerging economies). A new perspective on the relationship between environmental and organizational change is explored. Empirical evidences from Latin America are used to explore and propose enhancements to existing theory that take into account how organizations respond to extreme forms of change. In the presentation, he proposes a typology of environmental change that helps to interpret the findings and position the study vis-à-vis existing research.

Thema des Vortrages war "Geschäftsmodelle im Wandel: Von der Produkt- zur Dienstleistungsperspektive".

Der im Journal of Business & Industrial Marketing publizierte Artikel “Global approaches to the service business in manufacturing companies” von Gunther Kucza and Heiko Gebauer wurde an den Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2012 als Highly Commended Award Winner ausgezeichnet.

Neuer Mitarbeiter
Seit März 2012 arbeitet Dr. Philip Leifeld als Postdoc bei Cirus. Seine inhaltlichen Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Politiknetzwerke und politische Diskurse; methodisch basieren seine Arbeiten hauptsächlich auf netzwerkanalytischen Verfahren und agentenbasierter Modellierung. Philip ist gleichzeitig mit dem Institut für Politikwissenschaft an der Universität Bern (Lehrstuhl für Policy-Analyse, Prof. Dr. Karin Ingold) assoziiert. Frühere Forschungsaufenthalte hat er am Max-Planck-Institut zur Erforschung von Gemeinschaftsgütern in Bonn, an der Universität Konstanz, am Max-Planck-Institut für Demografische Forschung in Rostock und an der Columbia University verbracht. Insights into the intentional formation of business networks in the wastewater industry
This presentation provides insights into the intentional formation of business networks in the wastewater industry. By drawing on theoretical contributions on business networks and capabilities, the article enriches theory-building on business network formation. The empirical purpose of the article is to describe, assesses, and predict scenarios on business network formation in the wastewater industry. The research methodology employed is based on multiple sources of data in a multi-method design, interpreting potential business network scenarios. Our findings reveal that water scarcity, population growth, and economic constrains jeopardize existing business networks in the wastewater industry. Two potential scenarios (A: re-inventing the centralized system through on-site systems for mass-markets and B: expanding on-site systems into mass-markets) seem possible. Comparing both scenarios suggest that Scenario A is in a superior position to utilize the business opportunities offered. Research limitations arise from the qualitative nature of the research undertaken.Capability alignments and barriers suggest that Scenario A, i.e. re-inventing the centralized system through on-site systems for mass-markets, is the most suitable. The knowledge gained allows managers to outline a specific capability development approach to take advantage of the alignments and to overcome the barriers. The presentation highlights that theory-building on business networks can benefit from combining the formation of business networks with dynamic and operational capabilities.

Innovation at the Base of the Pyramid
Since the publications of seminal work on Innovation at the Base of the Pyramid, the topic has become an active research area in the field of management. In recent years, there has been a sharp rise in working papers, workshops, and conference sessions throughout the world on this topic. Despite the increasing research attention. empirical foundations, theoretical conceptualization, or research methods in this context face strong challenges. The presentation will provide insights into following topics: (i) current status of management research, (ii) paradoxes challenging innovations, and (iii) recommendations for successful innovations at the base of the pyramid. The presentation contains examples of successful innovations, discusses successful business models for the base of the pyramid and provides a framework for designing business models.
