Two Eawag scientists appointed as professor at EPF Lausanne

At its meeting on 19 March 2010 the ETH Borad appointed two scientists from Eawag as full professor resp. as adjunct professor at EPF Lausanne. Dr. Janet Hering, Director of Eawag and a full professor at ETH Zurich, was appointed as full professor of environmental chemistry at the school of architecture, civil and environmental engineering at EPF Lausanne. And Dr. Kristin Schirmer, Head of the Department of Environmental Toxicology at Eawag, will be adjunct professor at EPFL.
Janet Herings appointment confers on her a dual professorship at ETH Zurich and EPF Lausanne. It is the third dual professorship following Joël Mesot, Director of the PSI, and Gian-Luca Bona, Director of Empa, both of whom teach at ETH Zurich and at EPF Lausanne. The appointment shall promote collaboration between the institutions in the ETH Domain and will underline the existing research cooperation between EPF Lausanne and Eawag.
Kristin Schirmer is internationally known as a researcher in the field of cell biology and molecular ecotoxicology with a special interest in the interactions between environmental contaminants and the cells of vertebrates. According to the ETH Board the appointment of Kristin Schirmer underpins the policy of strengthening the academic and institutional ties between the institutions in the ETH Domain.
