ANNAMOX - Lake Tanganyika

Anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ANNAMOX) has been first described from bioreactors of wastewater treatment plants. It is a process where ammonium is oxidized with nitrite to nitrogen. Recently is has been also described from natural systems such as the Black Sea and the Golf of Dulce (Costa Rica) both marine systems. We aim to follow up this process in a limnic system (Lake Tanganyika).
