Pilot study “Organic micropollutants in NADUF”
The programme NADUF (“Nationale Daueruntersuchung der schweizerischen Fliessgewässer” -Long-term Monitoring of Swiss Rivers) was established in the 1970s as a tool to assess the temporal evolution of Swiss waters with a main focus on eutrophication. With the high level of efficiency of waste water treatment plants, point source nutrient pollution has been strongly reduced. However, (organic) micropollutants have become a serious water quality issue. This project aims at testing how NADUF can be extended to cover such pollutants as well.
The goals of this projects are:
1. Monitoring the following organic micropollutants at 5 NADUF sampling sites (Appenzell, Frauenfeld, Andelfingen, Rheinsfelden, Rekingen) during 1 year (2009):
- Biocides (Diuron, carbendazim, mecoprop)
- Pesticides (atrazine, sulcotrione, isoproturon, mecoprop)
- Pharmaceuticals (Carbamazepin, diclofenac, sulfamethoxazol))
2. Assessment / estimate of compound use.
3. Mass flux modelling.
