The workflow requires Excel to be connected with the R Statistical Environment via the RExcel+statconnDCOM software tools, which can be installed free of charge. Please navigate to the download section of the statconn website at

http://rcom.univie.ac.at/

There, under RAndFriends, choose ‘RAndFriendsSetupXXXVX.X-X-X’ (latest version), download and run the subsequent online installation (including the latest version of R), accepting all default settings and a computer restart

Open Excel. Go to (Add-Ins ->) RExcel -> Set R Server. A menu opens. Here, select Server Type: Background and click Save and Close.
