Ramps
Due to the great number of artificial barriers in Swiss streams, river engineers are trying to remove these obstacles and construct fish ramps to allow the fish to pass the barrier in the upstream direction. The success of the fish passage is not often measured, and therefore an assessment of new ramps is needed. We started to carry out studies on the fish passage at ramps in October 2006. The ramp project is currently part of a PhD study in the “Integrated River Management” project. In addition a Master thesis study also includes ramps passage success in different streams. Results will be available in summer 2011.
