River fragmentation

Swiss rivers are highly fragmented by hydropower plants and artificial migration barriers (weirs, dams). In order to study effects of fragmentation and defragmentation of rivers on trout population we are participating in the project ENHANCE. This tests and evaluates ecosystem connectivity with state-of-the-art molecular genetic experiments and population-dynamic analysis in terrestrial and riparian habitats, enhancing prior and subsequent connectivity.
