About Me

Stephany Wei holds a MS (2013) and PhD (2022), both in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of Washington in Seattle. Her PhD research covered topics on integration of aerobic granular sludge in continuous flow systems, nutrient recovery from source-separated urine, and ureolytic physiology of ammonia oxidizers. She is highly trained in bioreactor operations and possesses microbiology laboratory and molecular techniques. She is interested in exploiting microorganisms in innovative ways to achieve treatment goals and exploring the fascinating microbial ecology of activated sludge. She joined Eawag in May 2022, working with Dr. Morgenroth and Dr. Derlon on a project that uses an organic carrier to promote granulation.
