Dr. Esther Greenwood

Postdoctoral Researcher

Department Sanitation, Water and Solid Waste for Development

About Me

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Public Health, Infrastructure and Climate Group at the Department Sanitation, Water and Solid Waste for Development. I completed my doctorate in Environmental Systems Sciences with a focus on Environmental Health, at ETH Zürich and my master's degree in Water Resources Engineering at Lund University, Sweden.

I conducted my doctoral research in the Pathogens and Human Health Group, Department Environmental Microbiology, at Eawag. My research addressed limitations and data gaps in drinking water service monitoring by combining household survey and Earth Observation data. This involved collaborating with ecologists, data scientists and drinking water monitoring experts to develop geospatial machine learning and statistical modelling approaches to fill data gaps in safe drinking water service estimates across low- and middle-income countries.

Previously at Eawag, I contributed to projects on off-grid wastewater treatment at the Process Engineering Department and at the Department for Environmental Microbiology, I evaluated impacts of drinking water interventions on fecal carriage of antimicrobial resistant bacteria in low resource settings.
