Lucas Gobatti

PhD Candidate

Department Urban Water Management

PhD candidate in the Department of Urban Water Management. My current research goal is to reduce the amount of people experiencing heat vulnerability. To do that, I’m using microclimate models in which I assess water and heat dynamics in order to improve Blue-Green Infrastructure planning towards increasing evaporative cooling and thermal comfort. In easier words, I want to find where we place vegetation in the city to provide the best cooling performance to those that need it the most. A short version of my CV can be found below (main CV and major publications only). The full version can be found in my website: lucasgobatti.com.

I was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and completed my undergraduate studies (B.Sc.) at the University of São Paulo in a double degree in Civil Engineering and Architecture and Urban Planning. During this period I also completed a year of study abroad at the University of Sheffield, UK, and right after that I started my Master's degree (M.Sc.) also at the Polytechnic School, graduating with distinction. During my M.Sc. studies, I investigated water, thermal and vegetation dynamics in laboratory models and prototypes of vegetated roofs, and now, in my Ph.D., I have the opportunity to extend and deepen these studies for a wider range of blue-green systems and applications.

In addition to my research interests, I also enjoy mountaineering and trekking, nature photography, photographing small insects with microscope lenses (see my Instagram @g0batti), playing the flute, and Zen Buddhism.

Projects
