About Me
My research interest lies in the study of human excretion products in wastewater as indicators for the assessment of epidemiological information.
Wastewater is a complex matrix that contains traces of a vast number of different chemicals and biopolymers, that are ingested, unconsciously absorbed or produced by the human body and excreted via urine and stool. The study of such wastewater markers at the level of treatment plant influents allows anonymous and near real-time assessment of data on drug consumption, health-conditions and exposure to pathogens, respectively xenobiotics at a community scale. My research is currently focusing on the analysis of pharmaceuticals, illicit drugs and endogenous biomarkers in sewage through the use of high-resolution mass spectrometry.
My PhD project is associated with the DroMedArio project and conducted under the supervision of Dr. Christoph Ort, Heinz Singer and Prof. Dr. Max Maurer.
