About Me
I am a PhD researcher in the Hydrological Modelling group at the SIAM department at Eawag (Switzerland), supervised by Dr. Fabrizio Fenicia (Eawag), Prof. Dr. Jan Seibert (University of Zurich), and Prof. Dr. Markus Hrachowitz (TU Delft).
My research uses large-sample hydrology to understand why some river catchments are far more sensitive to environmental change than others. This question has direct implications for flood prediction, drought early warning, and streamflow forecasting in places where real-time monitoring data is scarce or absent.
In practice, my work spans the full pipeline: from building the open data infrastructure that makes continental-scale analysis possible (including as lead developer of EStreams, the largest hydro-climatic dataset in Europe), to developing and evaluating predictive models (both process-based and data-driven LSTM models) under current and future climate scenarios. A main focus is quantifying how uncertainty in input data propagates into model predictions, which is critical for reliable flood risk assessment.
Beyond my core PhD work, I co-develop open-source tools used by hydrologists worldwide, including RivRetrieve, a Python library that automates access to real-time and historical river monitoring data from agencies worldwide via APIs and web-scraping. I also contribute to water quality datasets (CAMELS-CH-Chem) and teach Bayesian methods at Eawag's Summer School. My work has resulted in 15+ peer-reviewed publications, including in Nature Portfolio journals.
