FAQ Eawag Postdoctoral Fellowship

Which date is used as the reference point for the completion of the doctoral degree?

The certified date of the successful PhD defence is used as the reference point, rather than the official award date. This ensures fair competition across applicants, as the definition and timing of the “award” differ between countries and universities.

Is it possible to extend the eligibility period in special circumstances?

Yes. Eligibility can be extended for reasons such as maternity, paternity, or parental leave, illness, national service, clinical training, natural disasters, asylum, or for victims of gender-based violence or any other form of violence. – This information must be provided in the recruitment tool.

Which types of visits at Eawag are considered collaborations in relation to eligibility for the fellowship?

This fellowship is intended for candidates who have not previously collaborated with Eawag. Short-term visits of less than one month, whether or not they resulted in a publication, do not count as collaborations.

My research project could fit into several research departments. Do I need to choose a home department?

Yes, the motivation letter should clearly indicate a potential home department that could serve as host for the project. You are also welcome to list other departments that could support your work. If more than one application is submitted, only the most recently submitted application will be considered.
