About Me

My research experiences cover the area of Environmental Analytical Chemistry and Environmental Microbiology and Ecology. Specifically, I conducted research in studying (1) the fate and transport of anthropogenic contaminants (antibiotics, PPCPs, PFAS, etc.) in environments, (2) the biotransformation products and reaction pathways, and (3) the microbial community structures and functions.

I am interested in applying meta-omics approaches (i.e., metagenomic and metatranscriptomic sequencing, RNA-seq, whole-genome sequencing) together with advanced analytical chemistry techniques (i.e., LC-HRMS/MS) to understand the interactions among microbes-environment-contaminants. Furthermore, the degradation of some contaminants also results in the release of many elements as by-products (e.g., Cl, F). I am also interested in studying how microbes contribute to the concept of the "anthropogenic compounds global biogeochemical cycle".

Here at Eawag, I continue my research in the same area but with a deeper focus: I aim to combine the environmental molecular biology approaches with synthetic biology tools to investigate the enzymatic degradation of various anthropogenic contaminants.
