Urban water management is undergoing major changes. The need to accommodate for climate change, growing cities and aging infrastructures is shifting the focus from a conveyance centric towards more holistic approaches.
The vision of the Blue Nexus Lab (BlueX) is to accelerate urban climate resilience through evidence-based innovations. Its goal is to create a real-life research environment, where novel concepts can be implemented and their effects on the urban water household quantified. BlueX - an urban living lab initiated by the department of Urban Water Management (SWW) - is located in a municipality in the Canton of Zurich but aims at becoming a lighthouse for the region and beyond.

The Blue Nexus Lab is designed for co-creating solutions to pressing urban issues with all affected stakeholders. It offers researchers a collaborative environment and facilitates the contact to relevant actors from practice as well as access to relevant data sets.
BlueX provides a platform for different types of projects in the field of water and climate adaptation:
- Lighthouse: Showcasing possibilities for climate adapted urban water management and their added value.
- Co-creation: Tackle already existing problems and collaborate closely with actors from practice for an increased implementability of results.
- Research platform: Increase the impact of SWWs research by offering a real-world application for research concepts.
More information and opportunities for collaboration will be published later on a separate website.
