ES&T Letters Best Paper Award for Marissa Kosnik and colleagues

February 24, 2026 | Marissa Kosnik

Marissa Kosnik of Utox, Nele Schuwirth of SIAM, and Andreu Rico of University of Valencia’s 2024 perspective titled Harnessing Computational Methods to Characterize Chemical Impacts on Biodiversity has won an ES&T Letters Best paper award!

Their article argues that computational methods need to be better utilized in assessing chemical impacts on biodiversity. The perspective highlights current methods used to assess chemical effects on genetics, species loss, and functional diversity, and propose new opportunities for harnessing available and emerging datasets and modelling methods to better characterize the relationship between chemicals and biodiversity loss. Congratulations to all the authors!
