In November 2024, they contributed to the organization of the training course “Introduction to ecotoxicology” for approximately 20 representatives from leading tire manufacturers worldwide. The course, hosted by Ecotox Centre, is part of a comprehensive project funded by the Tire Industry Project (TIP), an initiative of major tire companies under the umbrella of the WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development. The ongoing research, conducted since 2019, involves key partners of Eawag such as Utox, Ecotox Centre and EPFL's Central Environmental Laboratory.
Following the training, the first Tire Emission Research Conference took place in December 2024 in Munich, Germany, where our scientists presented their ongoing research on assessing the toxicological effects of tire-derived microplastics on freshwater microbial communities and using an innovative cell-based toolbox of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) cell lines. Looking forward to continuous fruitful collaborations in this exciting field!
