SP2I with Chloe Hill – Policy Officer at European Geosciences Union (EGU)
Almost every policy decision, regardless of topic or governance level, has a scientific component to it. And while science alone will never make policy, it can allow policymakers to more accurately assess the benefits and potential consequences of different policy pathways. Despite this, and the growing awareness among scientists about their need to engage with the policymaking process, it is often difficult for scientists to know how to get started, where to look or who to engage.
This presentation will outline what "science for policy" is, highlight why scientists should engage more with policy, and how they can engage in policy without compromising their position as an impartial, unbiased researcher. It will also outline some tips for effectively communicating with policymakers as well as some of the EGU's policy activities and how you can get involved with them.
