Lorsque j'ai grandi en ville, sortir dans la nature a toujours été une expérience étonnante pour moi, en raison de la richesse des formes biologiques que je pouvais observer. Par conséquent, lorsque j'ai commencé mes études de biologie, j'étais motivé par les mêmes questions que celles que de nombreux autres écologistes et biologistes de l'évolution se posent depuis longtemps et qui ne sont toujours pas entièrement résolues : Pourquoi y a-t-il tant d'espèces, et comment font-elles pour coexister et persister ? Et quels sont les principaux mécanismes qui façonnent les communautés et déterminent la répartition de la vie dans l'espace et le temps ?


En tant que collaborateur scientifique dans le groupe de recherche Altermatt, je participe à l’enseignement, à la supervision et à de nombreuses activités de recherche du laboratoire. Mes recherches portent sur la systématique et la faunistique des amphipodes, tant dans les écosystèmes épigés que souterrains, avec un accent particulier sur la Suisse. Les amphipodes, en tant qu’organismes modèles, m’aident à mieux comprendre les processus qui forment les modèles de biodiversité dans le temps et l’espace. Plus spécifiquement, les systèmes aquatiques dendritiques représentent un système d’étude approprié dans lequel différents mécanismes écologiques et évolutifs, tels que la dispersion, l’invasion et la spéciation, peuvent être étudiés. Les habitats souterrains sont des écosystèmes uniques ayant une longue histoire évolutive et intéressants tant du point de vue biogéographique que du point de vue du fonctionnement des écosystèmes, mais ils subissent actuellement un stress anthropique.
