With a strong background in chemistry and toxicology, I am interested in oxidation processes for water treatment. I am passionate about understanding the reactions of organic and inorganic chemicals during oxidative water treatment and the identification of hazardous byproducts. The overarching goal of my research is the optimization of oxidative water treatment in different contexts (e.g., wasterwater treatment, water reuse) in order to achieve water treatment goals while avoiding undesired consequences to protect human and environmental health.
My research focuses on the following areas:
1. Elucidating transformation mechanisms and parent compounds leading to the formation of hazardous byproducts upon oxidative treatment with particular focus on mechanisms involving reactive nitrogen species
2. Application of innovative tools based on combining advanced chemical analysis and bioassays for chemical screening prioritization and subsequent identification of hazardous oxidation byproducts
3. Analytical method development for comprehensive characterization of disinfection/oxidation byproducts
