Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) fosters sanitation demand creation through a large network of field practitioners and global stakeholders.

World Health Organization (WHO) works on aspects of water, sanitation and hygiene where the health burden is high, where interventions could make a major difference and where the present state of knowledge is poor.

World Water Council (WWC) provides a platform to encourage debates and exchanges of experience, aiming to reach a common strategic vision on water resources and water services management amongst all stakeholders in the water community.

Water Sanitation for Africa (WSA, previously CREPA), a Pan African Inter-governmental Agency, active in the development of innovative and sustainable approaches, evidence-based policy advice, and advocacy services in the provision of water, sanitation and hygiene services in Africa.

Research Institutes

Water, Engineering and Development Center (WEDC), at the University of Loughborough, UK, is concerned with the planning, provision and management of physical infrastructure for development in low- and middle-income countries. WEDC also maintains the WELL website, with information about water, sanitation and environmental health and related issues in developing and transitional countries.

International Water and Sanitation Centre (IRC) maintains the InterWATER database, which offers information about more than 650 organizations and networks in the water supply and sanitation sector, related to developing countries.

International Institute for Water and Environment Engineering 2iE, Burkina Faso

UNESCO-IHE, Institute for water education, carries out research, education and capacity building activities in the fields of water, environment and infrastructure.

Sector networks

International Water Association (IWA) Specialist Group on Water and Waste Technology and Management Strategies for Developing Countries. IWA developed the IWA WaterWiki, an information and resource hub for the global water community.

Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA) is an informal network of organisations who share a common vision on sustainable sanitation. It works as a coordination platform, working platform, sounding board, contributor to the policy dialogue on sustainable sanitation and as a “catalyst”.

Skat Consulting and Skat Foundation have project and resource information on solid waste management with special focus on developing countries.

WASTE is an adviser for development projects in countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. WASTE aims at sustainable improvement of the urban environment and amelioration of the living conditions of the low-income population.
